Sabrefish originated in 1989 as part of Salmon; an award winning global systems integrator, whose commerce oriented projects developed business for the leading names in retail, insurance and retail finance. In 2013 Sabrefish separated from Salmon and is now a fully independent insurance technology provider.
Salmon was founded in 1989 by Chris Harvey and Nick Holl. The company was formed to meet growing demand for an IT Supplier that was 100% committed to delivering complex applications, systems and solutions on time and to budget. Salmon’s first customer was Swinton Insurance in Manchester.
During the 1990’s the company grew fast across a number of sectors including finance and insurance, with customers such as Abbey National and Bristol and West helping to drive that growth.
In June 2000 a de-merge took place forming two companies, Salmon and Smart421. Salmon began working with major insurers and reinsurers, which to date have included Swiss Re, XL Re, Munich Re, Endsleigh, NFU Mutual and Royal Liver. Many turned to Salmon as they began to battle with large scale and strategic I.T. initiatives, including Service Oriented Architectures and redeveloping their systems to support multi channel business models.
Working with Xchanging’s In-Sure Services throughout 2002 resulted in Salmon being chosen to work with PRI, an insurance start-up entering the UK and European insurance market, to develop a brand new underwriting solution. Salmon began offering the best-of-breed underwriting solution RiskWrite directly to the London market in January 2004 and in November 2004 announced that Novae Underwriting Ltd had chosen to develop and use this fully web-based system.
In July 2004 Salmon was acquired by Cambridge Technology Partners (CTP), part of Novell Inc. The management undertook a buy-back from Novell Inc in 2007.
From 2007 to date, key developments include: the provision of the RiskWrite solution and associated Application Management and Support services to W.R.Berkley in London; the deployment of a new solution to support Motor Fleet Business, extending Novae’s use of RiskWrite; the selection by DUAL International (part of the Hyperion Insurance Group) of Salmon to develop and implement RiskWrite as its new pan-European web-based underwriting platform; and in July 2012, the announcement that Nexus Underwriting Management Ltd (Nexus) had chosen Salmon to configure and implement RiskWrite in a project which went from initial planning to go live in just two months.
In September 2012, Salmon announced the launch of RiskWrite Managed Service, based upon its successful RiskWrite Enterprise software, bringing the benefits of a proven multi channel insurance application but delivered as a fully managed service, making it ideal for MGAs, service companies and new market entrants. The latest version 3.0 of RiskWrite includes: Multi Section Risks, an enhanced Broker Portal, new MGA functionality and international support.
In January 2013 Salmon’s insurance business, software and staff transferred to Sabrefish in order to give the business full focus.
